Learn About Playas at Free Tour

You are invited a free Playa Tour in Nazareth, Texas, on Saturday, July 10th from 9am to 11am, as part of Nazareth’s German Festival. There is no registration fee for the tour, and children or youth welcome if accompanied by an adult.

For those who are interested, Jim Steiert will be giving a training session on playas for Texas Master Naturalists from 8am to 9am at the Home Mercantile Building in Nazareth (101 Second Street or the corner of Second and Leo Streets), which anyone can join. The Tour will begin at the Home Mercantile at 9am (doors open at 8:45am). This year, we plan to spend the entire tour out at a wet playa 9 miles north of Nazareth.

We encourage you to bring mud shoes or waders if you plan to walk in the mud flats or into the shallow water. Also, please bring a hat and proper clothing for the tour — we will be out at the playa for about an hour with a talk and walking around. Bottled water will be provided.

You will need to bring along $12 per person If you want to enjoy the Sausage Dinner back at the Nazareth Community Hall when the Tour is over, the cost is $12 per person (children under 12 are $8).

Please RSVP by contacting Darryl Birkenfeld at darryl@ogallalacommons.org or 806-945-2255.
